Born in Malpas, Cheshire (Prees) in 1891 (christened 30th December 1891).

Son of Mrs Sarah Ashley.

Married Alice Edwards of Bickerton on 26th January 1915.

Father to Alice, Helena (baptised 28 November 1915 at St Oswald’s Church, Malpas).

The 1911 Census shows Alfred as an apprentice joiner.

Alfred was severely wounded in Palestine (although Egypt mentioned in May 1918 issue of Deanery Magazine)

He had been treated at the Bollings VAD Hospital in Malpas for sometime before being transferred to Chester where he died of pneumonia. 

He was buried in Malpas Cemetery, Plot 335 on 10 March 1919.
