Born in Liverpool, Lancashire on 24th April 1887.

Illegitimate son of Sarah Carter (nee Bateman) and Amos Henry Lewis. 

Frederick was brought up by a Mrs Davies as Frederick Davies.

His mother, Sarah Bateman, married William Carter in 1907.

The 1911 Census shows Frederick as a Post Office messenger.
