John Glover

John Glover (known as Jack)

Personal Details:

Born in Hereford in 1890.

Eldest son of William J Glover of Foel, Llangadfan, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire and Mary Jane (nee Williams) of Cuddington, Malpas.

Jack lived in Kent and was a domestic footman.

Record of Death:

Killed in action in France (Battle of the Somme) on 7th October 1916. Aged 26.

Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial. Somme, France. Pier and Face 5 D.

He enlisted in Ashford, Kent in 1914, declaring his occupation as domestic footman.

Further Information:

Jack's mother, Mary Jane was the daughter of George and Frances Williams of Cuddington, Malpas.

Mary married William Glover and had 7 children before dying in 1913.

The Glovers had 7 children: John (Jack), George, William, Ethel, Phyllis, Alice and Mary.

When Mary died William moved to live at Foel, Llangadfan, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, Wales.

Jack’s younger brother, George, also lost his life in 1918 in the Great War.

George and Jack were brothers of Phyllis Glover, care of Mrs Higginson of Cuddington Heath, Malpas, Cheshire.

The Glovers came from and lived in the Malpas area, although Jack does not appear to have been living with his parents and siblings.

Jack was linked to Malpas through his aunt, Eliza Ann Downes (his mother’s sister), who he had lived with sometime in the past at Cross o’ th' Hill, Malpas.
