John (Owen) Jones.

Personal Details:

Born in Mostyn, Flintshire on 18th May 1897.

Third son of Samuel and Jane (Nee Holland) Jones of 5 Glanymnla, Llanerchymon, Holywell, Flintshire.

The 1911 Census records John as a farm labourer at the age of 14.

We know that he was working as a station porter for the London and North-Western Railway at Malpas prior to enlisting.

Regiment:           3rd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment.

Rank:                 Private.

Serial Number:   40096.

John's regiment did not see active service overseas and this is confirmed by his receiving no medals.

Record of Death:

John died from meningitis in Cambridge Military Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness on 13th May 1917. Aged 19.

Buried in Mostyn Christ Church Churchyard, Flintshire. North of Chancel.

Samuel and Jane Jones had 9 children in all.

John was named after his eldest brother, also John who had sadly died at the age of 8.
