Born in Broxton in 1890.

Second son of Robert and Mary Williamson of High Street, Malpas.

The 1911 Census records Richard as a farm labourer.

Regiment:          8th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.

Rank:                 Private.

Serial Number:   24219.

Richard survived the Gallipoli campaign and had been previously wounded in Mesopotamia before meeting his death in December 1916.

Record of Death:

Killed in action in Iraq on 20th December 1916. Aged 26.

Commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq. Panel 14 and 62.

Richard's younger brother, George, also lost his life in 1918 in the Great War.
