Died in India on 20 March 1944 as the result of a snake bite. Aged 34.

Born in Malpas, baptised on 24th October 1909, the son of the Rev Lawrence and Mrs Mary Elizabeth Armitstead, of Market Drayton, Shropshire. 

His father was Rector of Malpas between 1904 and 1936.

William was a chartered accountant and stockbroker living in Wollerton, Market Drayton.

William was acting Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his death.
