Record of Death:

Killed in action in Sicily 14 July 1943. Four days after the Allied landing. Aged 24.

Buried in Syracuse War Cemetery Sicily. VI. C. 14.

Gravestone Inscription:

"HE IS NOT FORGOTTEN BUT LIVES ON IN OUR HEARTS FOR EVER YOUNG IN OUR MEMORY"

Further Information:

Both William's grandfather and father were born in Malpas.

The 1911 Census records William's father aged 16 (also William born in 1895) living with his parents John and Minnie Allman in Well Street, Malpas.  He was recorded as a cycle fitter apprentice at Black Park, Whitchurch.

In the 1921 census, Williams' father is registered as living at 26, Charlecombe Street, Birkenhead, where William was born.

In the 1939 census, William’s father and his wife had separated and were living in Chester & Birkenhead respectively.
