Church Street Update – October 2021

The following note is based on information provided by Cheshire West Council.

Traffic is now flowing again on Church Street under traffic light control following completion of the stage one temporary works which were designed to make the wall safe.

The main contractor for stage two (permanent repair of the church yard wall) has now been appointed, and engineers are currently drawing up the designs for the repair and are drafting the associated work plans.

The Wall is a listed building and therefore the permanent works will need to be appropriate to its listed designation. This will require undertaking certain consultations and obtaining the necessary approvals for the works to go ahead. (English Heritage and Church Dioceses being two of the statutory bodies.)

It is anticipated that the work will commence in March/April 2022 at the earliest.

This is based on the time required to draw up designs and to obtain the approvals.

In addition specialist materials, such as Lime Mortar (which should not be applied to external structures in colder months) will be required to complete the work.
Hence any work schedule must accommodate this.

The work is expected to be completed by autumn 2022; this assuming that there are no unexpected disruptions to the planned works.
