Coronavirus (COVID-19)

VOLUNTEERS STILL WANTED

Help for residents:
Some 3 weeks ago, Malpas Community Links recognised that a number of our residents would potentially struggle to carry on with their normal daily lives over the coming months, because of their underlying health problems, or they were having to self-isolate to keep themselves and others safe.

We have set up a network of volunteers, some of whom are now actively involved in helping their near neighbours who fall into the above categories, with shopping and medical prescription delivery.

We are also assisting our local convenience stores with deliveries, and the stores are responding admirably, as we make suggestions to help stream line the order and delivery processes to help reduce the demand pressure on them.

The current issue we are facing is the huge demand on our Surgery and Chemist. They are being swamped by telephone calls and patient visits to collect medical prescriptions.
To try to ease the pressure on them, we have set up a number of co-ordinators across the Malpas Ward.

As normal, a patient will call the surgery or chemist to order their prescription, but will then be told to arrange delivery through one of our co-ordinators.
Our co-ordinator will then locate and task one of the Community Links registered volunteers to deliver the prescription.

The Laurel Bank Surgery practice area covers a large area extending from Whitchurch through to Tattenhall, so we have also shared our proposals with neighbouring support groups in Whitchurch, and Tilston, who have agreed to co-operate and work with our own co-ordinators.

National reports seemingly indicate the virus has some time to run, before it passes its peak, so we are expecting more of our community to be in self-isolation mode, and in need of our support.

We are therefore still signing up volunteers, particularly people living in the outlying parishes, who have access to a vehicle and are willing to support their near neighbours.

If you would like to volunteer could contact one of us please?
