Dear Resident,
Please see the attached newsletter from Age UK.
This month’s newsletter looks at gift card scams – a simple but increasingly common way for scammers to steal money.
You might be surprised to learn that criminals often ask their victims to buy gift cards from supermarkets and then hand over the codes, sometimes after pretending to be from their bank, the police, HMRC or a well-known technology company or even by an e-Mail for one of your associates of friends.
Age UK explain why gift cards are so attractive to scammers, how these scams work, the warning signs to look out for and, most importantly, why no genuine organisation will ever ask you to buy gift cards to keep your money safe or resolve a problem.
Please share with friends and family. If you work in retail where gift cards are sold then please also share this advice with colleagues.
Kind regards,
Beth
