Road Safety in Malpas.

Malpas Parish Council has adopted road safety as one of its major priorities.

The Parish Council recognises the many and growing concerns of local residents. These include another recent near miss on the Chester Road pedestrian crossing.

The Parish Council is working closely with Cheshire Constabulary and our local Police Community Safety Officer to address road safety matters arising from the current ongoing development work, and speeding in the village in particular.

Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council, has the prime responsibility for highway build and maintenance, and the Parish Council is also working closely with our Ward Councillor Rachael Williams, to address a number of current issues. These include:

Safety improvements on Tilston Road, around Hughes Lane and the rear access to Alport Primary School.

The provision of a continuous footpath from Lynchet Road into the village.
This was required as a condition of the original planning application.
Unfortunately it's proving both difficult and potentially very expensive to deliver.

The Parish Council has its own speed gun, allowing us to carry out Community Speedwatch activities. However, more volunteers would allow a more comprehensive programme to be run. Please get in touch with our clerk if you are interested in getting involved.

More recently, The Parish Council have registered an interest in being part of a pilot scheme to introduce Average Speed Cameras in the 30mph zone on Chester Road.

This is a competitive process, with 40 applications from parishes across Cheshire; this for 3 or 4 possible sites.

We should hear the outcome of this process shortly.

In the meanwhile, all drivers are urged to drive with care and consideration at all times!
