The Malpas Field Club was founded in 1981 and was very active under David Hayns' leadership until March 2020 when the Covid19 pandemic and restrictions halted meetings.
Sadly due to the lack of volunteers to carry it on, it ceased functioning and was dissolved in 2022, with its assets being passed to the community support group, Malpas Community Links.
In the early days of its existence, the Field Club consisted of a number of sub-sections.
One of these was a History Research Group, which in later years became independent of the Field Club and went on to carry out some valued transcription work on documents relating to the Malpas area, particularly Wills and Probate Inventories.
Many of these works have been published, providing an insight into the past and a valuable resource for later researchers.
The first project, while the group was still part of the Field Club, was the production of a twice-yearly magazine 'Malpas History'.
This ran to nine issues in all, from December 1983 to March 1988.
About four years ago the Committee agreed to have the file copies scanned and put on-line, so that they could be read and enjoyed by anyone.
In the period of Covid19 enforced isolation, David Hayns, the clubs secretary, has managed to find time to start scanning copies of his personal collection.
Malpas Cheshire Online has now published them and copies can downloaded from the following LINK
However, the documents remain the copyright of the Malpas Field Club and they should not be reproduced in part or whole without the permission of the Secretary David Hayns.
Malpas Field Club
3rd April 2020
It is with regret that the Committee members of Malpas Field Club announce that the Club has had to wind up its affairs and to finally close down after forty years of activity.
The Club was formed in 1980 for anyone with interests in local history, natural history and the countryside in general.
Each season it organised a programme of around eight indoor talks and up to three outdoor meetings, usually a guided walk, a visit to a place of interest or an outdoor activity.
In its early years, when many families were in membership, there were also sub-groups catering for younger members (the 'Watch' group), natural history recording and local history research.
The final meeting was held in March 2020, after which the first coronavirus lockdown brought an end to activities.
All of the Club's assets have been transferred to Malpas Community Links so that they can be available to support future events, activities, new organisations or other initiatives beneficial to the community of Malpas and district.
Further information is available from David Hayns, the retiring Honorary Secretary, on davidhayns.123@btinternet.com Tel: 01948 860486.
